Pitches

We accept pitches for long-form travel essays from established writers and emerging voices alike. We are particularly interested in:

  • Slow-travel narratives from regions underrepresented in English-language travel writing
  • Pieces about specific neighborhoods (rather than entire cities)
  • Off-season coverage of well-known destinations
  • Train, ferry, and walking journeys
  • Critical or contrarian takes on places, where well-supported

We are not interested in:

  • Listicles
  • "Hidden gems" pieces (the framing is exhausted)
  • Hotel reviews
  • Anything that mentions Instagram in the first three paragraphs

Send a one-paragraph pitch, three relevant links to previous work, and a sense of how long the finished piece would be. We pay competitive rates for accepted pitches and require exclusive English-language rights for six months from publication.

Subscriptions

Atlas Journal is free to read. We accept voluntary monthly support at any amount that feels right to you. Subscribers receive a quarterly print issue (when budget allows) and an early-access newsletter the day before each piece publishes.
